Self Advocacy Impact Lab
Self Advocacy Impact Lab is a hands-on intensive experience in which self advocates can learn and experience the power of social change communication by creating change from the ground up. Self advocates come together for bi-monthly meetings where they collaborate to create campaigns that effect measurable and sustainable change in any area of public interest. All campaigns will be self advocate led and followed through until the end regardless of the time required.
Self advocates participating in Self Advocacy Impact Lab work to create meaningful change in their community while developing and implementing skills in the following areas
- Collaboration
- Critical thinking
- Problem solving
- Communication
- Storytelling
- Movement building
- Community engagement
- Cultural awareness
- Design & Marketing
Self Advocacy Impact Lab utilizes the public interest communication framework as the basis for all campaigns. Public interest communication is about development and implementation of science-based, planned strategic communication campaigns with the main goal of achieving significant change and sustained positive behavioral change on a public interest issue that transcends the particular interests of any single organization.
Public interest communication is uniquely suited to integrate with the self movement because it is specifically designed to be adaptable to the needs and abilities of any community.
Participants will have a chance to engage in a discussion and start learning some of the unique strategies and tools that this group will use to create meaningful campaigns for change. Bring your ideas and be ready to learn!
Meetings will be held virtually on the last Wednesday of every month. Next Meeting is November 29th at 5:30pm.
